As a secret agent with few skills and some old traditional methods, Johnny English must overcome the challenges of modern technology to make his mission success.
There is a scene in the movie where Atkinson essentially does peter sellers doing Clouseau. Johnny English has to pretend to be a waiter in the scene, so he puts on a French accent. That scene is quite funny in the movie. With the continued success of the James Bond franchise, there have been countless amounts of action comedy films for the spy genre, mostly rely on the improvised humor in the regular scenes. Johnny English Strikes Again is no different than those movies. Seven years have been passed down and Rowan Atkinson has come out of a mini-retirement, doing some short roles on TV shows and giving voice over the animated Mr. Bean series.
When we saw the first trailer for this upcoming movie, we were curious how much would have changed over the years, and can we enjoy this film. Not much has changed. As we have discussed earlier, the plot of the Johnny English Strikes again revolves around cyber hacking like MI 7 stole the encrypted data. Then the Prime minister search for the private undercover agent for the mission. Then Johnny English travel around the globe like France in order to get the location of hackers.
No need to say, the plot of the movie is extremely thin and easy to pick apart. But of say honestly, no one comes to the theatre to see Johnny English movie for the serious plot. Instead of that this film heavily relies on the classic slapstick comedy.
The first Johnny English came out 15 years ago and did average business, but Johnny English Reborn in 2011, did business only for $8 million business so we would not expect same for Johnny English Strikes Again. More than ever before, this series highly appreciated by the hardcore Mr. Bean fans. Yet, they are the fan of his blunt reactions, some weird absurd face making an amazing comic timing.
While the entire film is supposed to be light-hearted after the first half movie delivered some good laughs. After analyzing the public response, even though this cannot be true, we can predict that this film can do reasonably well at the box office. The first two films already grossed upwards of $320m.
Johnny English Strikes Again is not a bad film but is not that much great either. If you are the hardcore fan of the Mr. Bean and his funny mischief activities then you can go and enjoy the movie in theatres.
