how to clean bathtubs

Posted by & filed under Cleaning Tips.

Does it surprise you that there are many germs lurking in your bathroom? Some common types of bacteria that you can find include streptococcus, salmonella, and e. coli.

For example, you can find them on the toilet, sink, and floor. The same thing goes for the bathtub. That’s why it’s so important to clean it on a regular basis.

More specifically, you want to disinfect it every week and deep clean it monthly.

Not sure how to do that? Need some tips on how to clean bathtubs? If so, you’re on the right page. Keep reading for everything that you need to know!

5 Tips on How to Clean Bathtubs Properly

There are a few things that you want to do when it comes to cleaning your bathtub. Here’s what you need to know.

1. Take Out All the Items

Make sure to take everything out before cleaning the bathtub. This includes things like bottles, loofahs, toiletries, and toys.

That way, you won’t have to worry about them coming into contact with your cleaning products. If necessary, you can always wash them before putting them back in the tub.

2. Don’t Forget the Walls and Tiles

Don’t forget to wash the tiles and walls that surround the bathtub. We recommend wiping them down with a sponge or cleaning cloth.

Depending on the cleaner that you’re using, you may also have to rinse the walls and tiles with water afterward to remove any residue.

3. Unclog the Drain with Baking Soda and Vinegar

The bathtub drain can get clogged by hair and other debris. To fix this, mix half a cup of white vinegar and baking soda in a bowl.

Remove the drain stopper and pour the mixture down; it should help soften the clog. From there, you can flush it out with hot water.

4. Remove Stains with Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide

Mix one part hydrogen peroxide with two parts baking soda—you should end up with a paste. Using a sponge or cloth, apply it to the stain.

Don’t wipe it right away. Instead, let it stand for at least 30 minutes before wiping and rinsing with water. Repeat the above steps if the stain is still present afterward.

5. Use an All-Purpose Cleaner For the Tub

Apply an all-purpose cleaner to the interior of the bathtub. Let it sit for a few minutes before wiping it down with a clean towel from the top to bottom.

When you’re finished, rinse the tub with water. Finally, dry the surface; there should be no water spots when you’re done.

playroom organization

Posted by & filed under Cleaning Tips.

Playrooms are an excellent opportunity for children to explore and have fun as they learn and grow. But while playrooms provide hours of enjoyment for children of all ages, they also produce a great amount of clutter.

When this happens, we find ourselves wondering what the best playroom cleaning tips are. How do we organize a playroom so the children who use it can find all their beloved toys but so we can easily clean it at the end of each day?

Luckily there are dozens of playroom cleaning tips and tricks to help with cleaning and organizing toys, books, and building blocks. The search for playroom organization stops here. Let’s take a look at the best playroom cleaning hacks for how to organize toys and more.

The first way to organize a playroom is by decluttering. It’s normal to accumulate toys, but when we stop and ask ourselves if all of these toys are necessary, we find that we can declutter and donate items that are no longer needed.

We can also discard broken toys instead of letting them take up space in a playroom. Don’t be afraid to involve the children in this activity. Ask them to select the toys they no longer play with and make “trash” and “donate” piles, depending on the condition of each item.

Invest in Clear Bins and Labels

Clear bins are an excellent way of storing toys and books when not in use, but in a way that we can see. This way we know exactly where an item is and don’t have to spend hours searching for it.

In order to further organize these bins, it’s always a good idea to purchase labels. We can write on these labels the contents of each bin, which allow any children that use the playroom an easy solution when putting away their toys. Color code and use fun shapes and pictures to help younger children learn where things go.

Shelves and Walls

An excellent way of organizing a playroom is with shelving. This clears up floor space, giving children more room to play and an easier time cleaning floors.

In addition to wall-mounted shelving, consider free-standing shelves. It’s an easy solution to clutter without having to drill into walls with permanent shelves. Plus, many of these free-standing shelves come on wheels with brightly colored bins, making them ideal for kids to move around the room as they play.

Closet space is also idea for organizing a playroom and storing additional toys.

Set up stations throughout the playroom, such as art, music, and reading areas. Each station should have its own bins for easy organization.

Periodically go through these bins to help keep toys in the right spot for easy access. Since some stations may have crafts, look for smaller bins to help organize craft items as needed.

Benefits of Playroom Organization

When we seek playroom organization, we not only set the stage for an easier end-of-day cleanup routine, but we make toys more inviting for children to play with. In addition, we provide opportunities for kids to become part of the cleaning process as they learn where different items go through the use of helpful labels and clear bins.

Did you know that the average American spends 6 hours cleaning their house each week?

We all want to live in a house that is clean and safe. We want to sleep at night knowing that our bathroom is sparkling and that our kitchen is free of bugs.

However, in 2020, we seem to have less time than in previous years. The growing work-from-home culture mixed with home-schooling has left us busier than ever.

If you want to have a truly clean house, what cleaning methods do you need to know? Why not read on to find out.

1. Clean Whiteboards with Hairspray

After a while, your beautiful whiteboard can start to become dull and marker stains can become harder to remove.

If you would like to revitalize your whiteboard, try taking some hairspray and spraying it on the whiteboard. You can then use a clean cloth to polish the whiteboard surface. If you find that there is a sticky residue on the board afterward, you can use soap and water to wash the surface.

2. Make Glass Shower Doors with Windshield Water Repellent

You may use windshield water repellant on your car to prevent unwanted buildups of water. Did you know that you can use the same product in your bathroom?

Simply spritz some of it on to your glass shower doors and then wipe it off using a cloth.

This is just one way that you can keep your bathroom looking neat and tidy and generally brand new.

3. Use Coffee Filters to Clean Glass

Old newspaper or kitchen towel may have done a reasonable job of keeping your windows clean. However, if you are truly interested in making your windows shiny and streak-free, why not try coffee filters?

Use them to dry water from your windows and you will see that they leave no residue or spots.

This is only one time-saving tip that you can apply using simple kitchen items.

4. Clean Chalkboards with Baby Wipes

Let’s face it, chalkboards are cool. Whether you use them to teach your kids from home or simply have a chalkboard paint area in your living room, writing on the wall has never been so popular.

However, after you have used them for a while, they can become filled with chalkdust and lose their sheen.

Why not use a baby wipe to gather up and remove the chalkdust from your chalkboard? It is quick easy and leaves no residue behind.

5. Clean Camping Gear with Vodka

If you love camping you will no doubt have enjoyed many walks in scenic areas, nights by the campfire eating food with friends. The problem is that we later bring all of these odors home with us in our camping gear

home smell good

Posted by & filed under Cleaning Tips.

Have you ever walked into a person’s home and been immediately struck by the wonderful smell? How about devasted by a really unpleasant smell?

The way a home hits the nose makes a big impact on how we feel about it. Additionally, we start to make assumptions, unconsciously or otherwise, about the person who makes their home smell that way! With this in mind, it’s best to air on the side of caution and make sure that you keep your home smelling as great as possible.

We’re going to discuss some ways to make your home smell good in this article, giving you a little insight into how you might be able to set a better mood and make a great impression.

Let’s get started.

Methods to Make Your Home Smell Good to Others

It’s important to note that a home starts to take on the smell of the people who inhabit it. That might seem like an obvious thing to say, but it’s a sneaky thing because those who live in the home get desensitized to the odor. Whether that natural smell is pleasant or not, the ones who come in contact with it every day tend not to smell it.

At a certain point, there’s no way to really avoid the smells that come naturally from you and your housemates. That baseline odor tends to be neutral, and the ways to improve the smell of your home tend to overpower it anyway.

The key thing to keep at bay is the smell of a dirty home. Dirt, grime, old food in crevices, and who knows what else can all build up a nasty smell. Regular deep cleaning is the most effective way to keep those odors away. If you’ve lived on the dirty side for a while, though, you might not appreciate the smell and it might be a tall order to try and clean it away.

In those instances, it might be a good idea to hire a cleaning company to come through and clean your home thoroughly. You’ll be struck by how much better things look and smell once the cleaning process is through.

Curating a Home Smell

After you’ve established a good cleaning schedule, you can start to tune up your house’s smell with different products.

Candles are an excellent option, as they tend to be subtle and you can choose almost any smell to fit any occasion. The holiday season might be a great time to use cinnamon candles, for example.

You can also invest a little bit in essential oil infusers that spray out the scent from oils as a mist. Infusers can do wonders for any room of your home, and you can pick different smells for different areas and really curate things.

declutter bathroom

Posted by & filed under Cleaning Tips.

The bathroom is supposed to be where you escape from your children, get some needed privacy, get ready for the day, or take a relaxing bath. But, relaxing can be challenging to do, especially when your bathroom is full of clutter everywhere you look.

Before you know it, your bathroom has let you with more anxiety and may have you wondering how to declutter the bathroom. There’s no need to continue worrying because below, you’re going to find some simple fixes that will get your bathroom back in order before you know it.

And then it’ll return back to your peaceful oasis once again.

1. Use a Shower Caddy

We’ve all experienced times when each corner of the bathtub is cluttered with shampoos, conditioners, body washed, and more. Not only is this an eyesore, but it’s also dangerous because you’ll find yourself stumbling to step over bottles when getting in and out of the tub.

But, by using a shower caddy, you can ensure that all of your shower essentials are stored neatly in one place. Typically the shower caddy will hang over your shower head, and it’ll even have space for you to store your washcloths or shower sponges after you’ve showered.

Talk about convenience.

2. Use Storage Bins

Rather than storing everything under your sink and hunting for things when you need it, store things in bins. For example, if you’ve got tons of nail polish, cotton balls, and polish remover, store those items in a bin together.

That way, when you’re ready to do your nails, you’ll have all the tools and equipment you need in one space instead of scattered under the sink. Storage bins are simple to use and can be folded and put away when not in use.

They bring order under your sink, where tons of clutter could occur.

3. Use Trays

If you’re someone with tons of products sprawled across your counter, it can be challenging to see anything other than a mess. This is such an easy fix; all you’ve got to do is make use of a small tray.

Preferably a tray that will fit in the corner of your sink counter away from the edge without taking up a lot of space. Now you’ve got all your products neatly stored and can get full access to your sink back.

4. Toilet Paper Rack

Most people don’t think much about the toilet paper in their bathrooms until it runs out. But, if you’re someone that stores toilet paper on the floor next to the toilet or under the sink, it can take up valuable space.

Instead of doing this, invest in a toilet paper rack or over the toilet rack. You can store things like toilet paper, towels, and other items you need while making the most of your bathroom space.

How to Declutter the Bathroom?

When you’re looking for ways to declutter the bathroom, there are tons of simple homes that you can do. Think about investing in a shower caddy to improve your shower’s functionality and get some storage bins underneath your sink.

After you’ve got your bathroom free of clutter, it may need a deep clean. And if so, don’t hesitate to call the professionals and request a quote from Elite Home Cleaning. They know how to put the shine back in your shower tile.

natural microwave cleaner

Posted by & filed under Cleaning Tips.

Is your microwave in need of a little attention? From food splatters inside to germs on the outside, microwaves are just begging for regular cleaning, but they often get ignored during regular kitchen cleaning.

You don’t need to pull out harsh cleaners to get all of the stuck-on gunk off of the microwave. Vinegar and water are two secret weapons for a natural microwave cleaner that keeps this popular kitchen appliance clean. Other household items can also help.

Keep reading to learn microwave cleaning hacks to make your life easier.

Vinegar Method

Vinegar is one of the most versatile natural cleaning ingredients. It’s nontoxic and contains acetic acid, which makes vinegar good at cleaning and disinfecting.

To clean your microwave with vinegar, mix equal parts of vinegar and water in a microwave-safe bowl. Adding sliced lemons to the water helps with the smell and can give you more cleaning power. Place it in the microwave and run it for 5 minutes on high to create steam that loosens the gunk.

Carefully remove the bowl of the vinegar mixture from the microwave. Use a clean cloth or sponge to wipe down the inside of the microwave. You can also carefully dip the cloth or sponge into the hot vinegar mixture, being careful not to burn yourself, for extra cleaning power.

Dish Soap Cleaner

The dish soap you already use to wash your dishes can also help you clean the inside of your microwave. Add a few drops of dish soap to a cup of water in a microwave-safe container. Run the microwave on high for about 2 minutes, then leave the microwave closed for another 3 minutes to let the steam loosen the cooked-on food.

Just like the vinegar method, you’ll then carefully remove the water and wipe down the inside of the microwave. Wipe it again with a clean cloth to remove any soap bubbles.

Baking Soda Paste

Using an abrasive sponge or cleaner can scratch the inside of your microwave. Baking soda is a gentle abrasive option that can help scrub away microwave gunk without scratching the appliance.

Make a paste by slowly adding water to baking soda until it’s a thick, paste-like consistency. Coat the interior of the microwave with the paste and let it sit overnight.

In the morning, grab a damp cloth and wipe off the paste. Wipe it again with a clean, damp cloth to remove any leftover baking soda.

Don’t Forget the Handle

When you clean your microwave, you probably focus on the food splatters inside. The handle is another important spot to clean.

One study showed that 48% of microwave handles in offices have high levels of contamination. Your kitchen is less busy than the average office breakroom, but it’s still a popular spot for germs to gather. Use vinegar or your favorite sanitizing cleaner to wipe down the handle on a regular basis.

Use Natural Microwave Cleaner

With a natural microwave cleaner, you can get the appliance clean without harsh chemicals. You don’t have to worry about cleaners contaminating your food the next time you heat something in your microwave.

living room clutter

Posted by & filed under Cleaning Tips.

Does it feel like your living room in shrinking with all of the clutter? It can feel like living room clutter multiplies when you’re not looking. As one of the rooms where you spend a majority of your time, the living room can also quickly become the go-to drop zone for everything.

On average, Americans are indoors about 90% of the time. With so much time spend indoors, you don’t want to be surrounded by clutter.

Getting your living room clutter under control makes the room more relaxing and enjoyable. Decluttering also frees up space so you can use the living room to its full potential, and it makes cleaning more efficient since you’re not dealing with so much stuff.

Check out these tips for creating a clutter free living room.

Consider Uses for the Room

Living rooms often become multipurpose spaces, used for watching TV, chatting, playing, and doing homework. Think about the activities you do in the space and how you want it to be used.

Now, decide which items currently in the living room fill those purposes. Anything that doesn’t belong or help with those tasks should go.

Likewise, if you have items in the living room that belong somewhere else, move them to that spot now. If you have a home office but your bills are piled up on your end table, move them to the office. If you still have a few tools from your last home improvement project, take them back to the garage.

Create Living Room Zones

Set up different areas for different activities that happen in the living room. If your kids play in the living room, create a toy corner. If you have a mini office in the space, set up a desk and bookshelf area.

Keeping the items related to those activities in those zones helps you stay organized and keeps everything from piling up all over the living room. With a play area, the toys stay confined to that part of the living room instead of creeping throughout, for example.

Add Organizers

The things that you have left in your living room need a dedicated spot to keep from getting out of control again. Pick up cute organizers that go with your living room decor and work well for holding the items.

Decorative baskets work well for things like toys, throw blankets, and magazines. You can also grab a magazine rack or other specific organizers for the items you keep in your living room. Storage ottomans give you hidden storage to keep items close but out of sight.

Pick Up Regularly

Decluttering once gets your living room tidy initially, but you need to keep it up regularly to prevent it from returning. Get used to putting things back where they belong in the living room when you’re done using them.

Set aside time to tidy up the space on a daily or weekly basis. Cleaning takes Americans an average of 6 hours per week, but decluttering and tidying up regularly can save you time on cleaning.

Tackle Living Room Clutter

Eliminating living room clutter and keeping it under control makes the space more comfortable and functional. You can enjoy your space more when it’s tidy and organized.

declutter kitchen

Posted by & filed under Cleaning Tips.

The average kitchen size in a new home is 161 square feet, but if you’re living in an older home, there’s a good chance you’re dealing with less space. No matter how big or small your kitchen is, it’s always at risk for clutter.

A cluttered kitchen eats up valuable work space and makes it less functional. Your space looks more attractive when it’s decluttered and organized. Removing clutter also makes it easier to clean your kitchen.

Keep reading to learn tips to declutter kitchen spaces for a more functional way to cook.

1. Get Rid of the Extras

Do you really need 20 mugs or multiple pizza cutters? Are all of those kitchen appliances really getting used?

One of the easiest ways to declutter your kitchen is decrease the number of things you have in it. Be realistic about how often you use things and stick to must-have kitchen tools. Get rid of duplicates that you never use.

Donate items you don’t need. If you’re worried you might need them someday, pack them up and put them in storage for now. In a few months, get rid of the things you haven’t needed.

2. Pick Tools That Multitask

Another way to decrease what you store in your kitchen is to buy things that work for multiple purposes. You can find utensils, cookware, appliances, and gadgets for the kitchen that do one thing like slice a pineapple or separate eggs. But many of those tasks are just as easy to do with a good kitchen knife or without any utensils at all.

Invest in quality cookware, knives, and utensils that handle multiple kitchen tasks. You cut the clutter by using a single item that handles multiple jobs, and high-quality items last longer.

3. Set Up Kitchen Zones

Think about the ways you use your kitchen, such as meal prepping, making school lunches, and cooking regular meals. Consider what types of activities those things entail and what kind of space you need for them.

Create different zones for those activities. Then, keep tools and gadgets nearby and easily accessible that you’ll use.

4. Give Everything a Spot

Your kitchen gear can creep and take over your counters and other areas if it doesn’t have a dedicated spot. Once you know your kitchen zones, ensure everything has a drawer, cabinet, shelf, or organizer to go into to stay tidy.

Get in the habit of putting things back into those spots when you’re done using them. Pretty labels can also help ensure everything goes back correctly.

5. Keep Up With Decluttering

As a central part of your home, the kitchen can easily become a drop zone for everything from the mail to homework. It’s easy to leave things on the counter when you’re done cooking or let the sink fill with dishes.

Picking up and putting things away as you go prevents clutter from building. Spend a few minutes at the end of each day decluttering and putting things away.
