Mattel Inc. have announced the first ever hijab-wearing barbie modeled after Ibtihaj Muhammad, an American Olympian who represented the country in fencing and competed in last year’s Olympics while wearing a hijab and won a bronze medal.

According to the Barbie maker, the new barbie, which is part of the Barbie “Shero” line will be available online from next fall. The ‘Shero’ line honors women who break boundaries with past dolls being modeled after gymnast Gabby Douglas and “Selma” director Ava DuVernay.

Muhammad has been part of the design process of the new Barbie from the beginning and says that her resemblance to the doll is uncanny. Muhammad said on Twitter that she was “proud” that young people will be able to play with “a Barbie who chooses to wear hijab!”

“I’m excited to just partner with a brand that I know honors powerful women who are breaking barriers and whose sole goal is to impact the future leaders of tomorrow,” Muhammad told PeopleStyle. “To be included in this conversation is very humbling and I’m over the moon about this whole thing.”
